HIGH RESOLUTION MAP PRODUCTION

In line with technological developments, a project is being carried out at Istanbul Technical University to develop High Resolution Maps (HRM) for autonomous vehicles and to collect spatial data in ITU AyazaÄŸa Campus with a vehicle equipped with sensors and to automate this process.

With the rapid development of technology and its increasing place in our lives, the importance of digital transformation in transportation infrastructure is increasing. This project, which will be carried out at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), AyazaÄŸa Campus, aims to produce High Resolution Maps (HRP) that will form the basis of smart transportation systems, in parallel with the development of autonomous vehicle technologies.

In this groundbreaking project, detailed spatial data of roads on campus will be collected using vehicles equipped with sensors such as GNSS/IMU, LiDAR, metric cameras and odometers. This data, which will be processed with deep learning algorithms, will provide the digital infrastructure required for autonomous vehicles to navigate the campus safely and effectively.

The innovative approaches of the project include creating a constantly updated and sustainable YÇH infrastructure, processing data obtained from mobile vehicles with deep learning methods, and developing algorithms to solve potential problems in positioning systems. This project will reinforce ITU's leading role in the digital transformation process and set an example for other campuses.
